8.Question: How to use the fire starter?
Answer: To use the fire starter, there is a small metal knife-like item attached to the fire starter. Use the serrated bottom edge to scrape the black off of the fire starter flint rod (it will take a few tries to remove it) showing the silver beneath, to work properly. Once you see silver, keep running the metal blade down the flint firmly, but not too hard. Make sure that whatever you are trying to light, is set on the ground, then the flint set on top. This way the spark will fall right in place, lighting the tinder, or magnesium. Good sources of tinder include twigs, dry leaves, cotton ball or dryer lint that you have packed and taken along. A cotton ball with a smear of petroleum jelly on top makes a longer burning flame to get your fire going.
